Sometimes one spouse is afraid of the vulnerability that’s necessary and helpful in a collaborative divorce. What I do is work with the other attorney to use the collaborative skillsets, knowing that we want to get to resolution. We never want to call that first witness in the courtroom unless we absolutely have to, because when we call a witness, we’re tearing at the flesh of that family. As lawyers, we are trained to do that, but it is not helping anyone involved in the divorce.
